Cushing's syndrome — whether from a pituitary or adrenal tumour or from long-term steroid medication — causes weight gain, central obesity, muscle wasting, hypertension, glucose intolerance, and bone loss. Diet supports the medical treatment by managing these downstream effects.
Cushing's syndrome results from prolonged excess cortisol — either endogenous or exogenous (long-term high-dose steroid medication). Symptoms include central weight gain, moon face, buffalo hump, purple stretch marks, muscle weakness, easy bruising, mood changes, hypertension, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
Dietary support cannot reverse Cushing's — the underlying cause needs medical/surgical treatment. But diet manages the secondary problems: low-glycaemic eating to control cortisol-driven glucose elevation, adequate protein to counter muscle wasting, calcium and vitamin D to slow bone loss, low sodium to manage BP, and weight management.
Treatment plan coordinated with endocrinologist. Dietary protocol begins.
Glucose, BP, muscle wasting addressed through targeted nutrition.
Diet continues to mitigate steroid effects throughout treatment.
